FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE

Notes From The Doc

This is one of the best chairs Osaki makes. I won't call it the best chair out there, because I don't believe there is one, just the best chair for you. My biggest takeaway with the DuoMax is how much control it gives you, and it's a chair I recommend all the time, especially for homes with multiple family members.

  • Two rollers, a lot of control

There's a 4D roller in the back and a separate 3D roller under the seat that works your buttocks and hamstrings at the same time. In manual mode you can control just about every part of the massage, from fast or slow vibration and kneading to which parts of the body it works, and the intensity goes from super soft to super intense.

  • Piano-key forearm compression

The arm compression sleeves use what's called piano-style compression. They compress one spot after another along your forearms, like keys being played on a piano.

  • Memory settings for each person

Surprisingly, a lot of chairs don't have this. You can save a massage to memory for a specific person, so everyone at home can sit back, hit their button and get their own program.

  • The AI health detector

This is something I love about this chair. You put your finger in the pulse sensor on the arm, it reads your microcirculation, gives you a fatigue or stress score and customizes the whole massage from there. It's the feature I usually use when I'm in this chair.

THE MASSAGE EXPERIENCE

Duo Mech 4D + 3D

4D Upper-Body Massage. 3D Lower-Body Massage.

The original DuoMax uses two separate massage mechanisms. A 4D mechanism works the upper body, while a separate 3D mechanism handles the lower body.

Both run along Osaki's 8 roller-track system and work in sync, so the upper and lower body are massaged together instead of waiting for a single mechanism to travel the full length of the back.

SL Flex Track

A Flexible Track Designed for Reclining

The DuoMax is built on Osaki's SL Flex Track. An SL track follows the S-shaped curve of the spine, then continues beneath the seat in an L shape, so massage reaches below the lower back instead of stopping where the backrest ends.

Pair the track with the chair's zero gravity recline, shown here, to lie back and let the mechanisms work.

Legs and Feet

Massage That Extends to Your Legs and Feet

The DuoMax massage doesn't stop at your back. Its 36 air cells deliver full-body compression massage, and the leg rest cradles your calves and feet so the lower legs are part of the session.

An automatic extendable footrest adjusts the leg rest to fit you.

Controls

Convenient Controls at Your Fingertips

A touchscreen tablet remote puts the DuoMax's 20 auto programs and 11 massage styles in one place, so you can choose and customize a session without getting up.

Quick-access shortcut buttons are built into the armrest panel, and the chair also includes Smart Voice Control.

COMFORT & TECHNOLOGY

Designed Around Your Comfort

Beyond its massage mechanisms, the Osaki DuoMax includes features that make each session more comfortable, convenient and customizable.

  1. Zero Gravity Reclining

Recline into a zero gravity position while the DuoMax's massage mechanisms work along your back and lower body.

  2. Built-In Heat Therapy

The DuoMax includes two heating cores designed to add warmth to your massage session.

  3. 20 Automatic Programs

Choose from 20 automatic massage programs for different massage experiences without having to adjust every setting manually.

  4. 36 Air Cells

Air compression massage complements the roller mechanisms, providing compression across multiple areas of the body.

  5. My #1 Osaki Massage Chair Pick

Of all the Osaki massage chairs I've reviewed, the DuoMax is my number one overall pick.

  6. Top 3 for Stretching

In my experience, the DuoMax delivers one of the three best stretching programs of any massage chair I've tested.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Osaki DuoMax Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about the Osaki DuoMax, including its massage features, fit, and installation.

What is the difference between the DuoMax's 4D and 3D massage mechanisms?

The DuoMax uses two separate massage mechanisms. A 4D roller mechanism works your upper body, including your back, neck and shoulders, with rollers that adjust their depth and speed. A separate 3D mechanism sits under the seat and works your buttocks and hamstrings at the same time. Both run along Osaki's SL Flex Track, which covers you from the neck and shoulders down to the hamstrings.

Does the DuoMax massage the calves and feet?

Yes. The footrest has calf rollers that knead and move up and down, plus airbags that compress the calf muscles. Each foot also gets 2 foot rollers with reflexology ridges for a heel-to-toe massage, and the automatic footrest extends up to 7.8 inches to fit users of different heights.

Does the DuoMax have heat?

Yes. The DuoMax has 2 heated jade cores that move along the contours of your body during the massage, plus a heating shawl that warms the shoulders, back, waist and abdomen. Osaki rates the warmth at approximately 75 to 83°F, and the heat starts after about 3 minutes.

Can multiple people save their massage preferences?

Yes, in two ways. The 3 memory slots save the massage that's currently running, including the program, air settings, and backrest and leg positions, so you can recall it later. The 2 custom program slots let you build a massage from scratch by choosing the technique, intensity, speed, air pressure, heat and calf kneading, then saving it. Osaki doesn't tie these slots to individual user profiles, but in a shared home, each person can claim a slot for their favorite settings.

How many automatic massage programs does the DuoMax have?

The DuoMax has 20 automatic massage programs, including Total Relax, Neck & Shoulder Care, Thai Massage and Sweet Dream. When you want to build your own session, there are also 11 manual massage styles, including kneading, shoulder grasp, tapping, shiatsu and four 4D styles.

How much space does the DuoMax need?

Upright, the DuoMax measures 31.5" wide, 66.0" long and 51.0" high. Fully reclined, it measures 76.0" long and 41.0" high at the same 31.5" width. Thanks to Osaki's Space Saving Technology, it needs only 5.5 inches of clearance between the back of the chair and the wall to recline fully.

What doorway width is required for delivery?

Osaki lists a 30-inch minimum doorway width. To check yours, measure the narrowest inside width of the door frame and subtract 1 inch. Measure every doorway, hallway and turn along the delivery route, not just the front door.

What is the maximum user weight?

The DuoMax supports users up to 330 pounds.

What does the AI health sensor do?

When you place a finger on the built-in sensor, the DuoMax reads your heart rate, blood oxygen and a fatigue index. It uses those readings to recommend a massage program tailored to how your body feels that day, which you can accept or skip. This is a wellness and comfort feature, not a medical device, and it isn't meant to diagnose, treat or monitor any health condition.

Is the DuoMax a good chair for households with multiple users?

It can be a great fit. In Dr. Eric Duncan's review, his biggest takeaway was how much control the DuoMax gives you, from manual control over almost every part of the massage to intensity that ranges from super soft to super intense. With memory and custom program slots, different people at home can keep their own settings. Every body is different, though, so the best way to know if it fits your household is a free phone consultation.
